Curious, does anyone have any experience with Piwigo? I’m thinking of using it to host my own photos, as opposed to Flickr, SmugMug, etc. as I would like to maintain full control of the viewing and sharing of them for privacy reasons.

All Aboard the Wiki Train

Today’s tinker project is to setup TiddlyWiki.

I’ve decided that a wiki is a good place to locate all those little snippets of information I collect, which currently end up spread between plain text files in Dropbox, some marked up notes in Notes.app, and an assortment of PDFs spread across Dropbox, Files.app, and a myriad of other locations.

A wiki is a good place to store this sort of information, I can get to it anywhere I have an Internet connection, using the Quine iOS app I can take files offline with me, along with being able create new files offline and sync them later.

Now for the real challenge;

  • do I use one of my existing domain names or do I buy a new domain?
  • if I use an existing domain, do I go the subdomain route?
  • do I make it public or do I keep it private?

Decisions, decisions!

Despite watching 2 or 3 NBA games a week for the last couple of months, I still don’t support a particular team. The last time I did it was the Seattle Supersonics in about ’92, with Shaun Kemp and Gary Payton, with the Charlotte Hornets and Alonzo Mourning a close second. πŸ€

It’s interesting that Facebook is experiencing outages on the 30th anniversary of the web… πŸ€”

Some Thoughts On Using Facebook Again

Almost all of my friends are still on Facebook, and whilst I don’t want to use Facebook again, I can see some value in having an account there just to be able to communicate with friends.

I won’t publish anything to Facebook, directly or indirectly, nor will I crosspost from my blog to Facebook. This is not about gaining views or anything like that.

I’m wondering how minimal an account can be on Facebook, i.e. how much information will I have to provide Facebook. Can I simply provide an email address and password, or will they demand more…I know they want more, but what is the “minimum viable Facebook” configuration?

How much activity / tracking can I block? Can I make it so that I cannot be tagged in photos, posts, groups, etc. ?

What about the Facebook app, do I need it on my phone, or can I just use the web app? Does the web app allow you to block stuff, are its privacy settings comparable to the iOS version? If I do use the iOS app, can I block access to location, microphone, and other sensors?

I wish I had of given Facebook this much thought before I used it previously, hindsight is 20/20, of course.

I’m still not entirely convinced that this is a good idea…

Spider man spider verse

Yay, new movie day! Can’t wait to watch Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse with @travispacker tonight!

MyGov password fail

I find it incredibly frustrating when a website, especially a Government run one that’s holding very important personal information about me, doesn’t allow a password longer than 20 characters…

Scult mac settings

I just changed the keyboard configuration for the Microsoft Sculpt 2 to make it work better with Mac OS.

I’ve changed the Windows key to act as the Option key, and the Alt key to act as the Command key.
