Apple WWDC Rumours

apple-wwdc08.jpg

Here’s my 2 cents on the rumours that are floating all round the web at the moment, chances are I’m going to be so far away from what actually gets announced by Steve Jobs on the Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th Australian time, but hey I’ll take a stab in the dark anyway.

Mac Tablet (iTablet or iTouch) - Apple have already proved that they have an extremely solid and stable operating system in OSX, and they have one of the best touch screens on the market in the iPhone, what happens when you combine the two. Mac Tablet. Mac Tablet is the sort of product you would have around your house, build it into appliances like your fridge, stick a TV tuner in it and mount it to a wall wherever you want a computer and a TV, the possibilities are actually endless.

iTunes TV (Australia) - We’re about to see the first Apple store open in Australia, in Sydney to be precise, and I think this might coincide with a number of big things for Apple lovers in Australia. Apart from the obvious, aka. the iPhone, I think we’ll see the expansion of the services available to us via the iTunes store.

Currently available only in the US, Canada and UK, Apple you can buy / rent movies and television shows from the iTunes store. This service has been missing in Australia and I think we might just be ready for this with the imminent launch of the iPhone and the potential content service sales that will come from that.

..and last but not least, and probably a foregone conclusion..

iPhone 2.0 - Yep, we’re going to see a new iPhone, and yep it’s going to be available in Australia via Optus and Vodaphone, and yep we will see it some time in the month of June. Spec wise I think it will be very similar to the current version, except for 3 big differences;

  1. 3G network capability
  2. Built in GPS
  3. Push Email (same as Blackberry)

What are your thoughts, am I way off track?

Vodafone gets the iPhone

vodafone-logo.jpgToday, after months and months of speculation, Apple announced that it had signed an agreement with Vodafone to be the provider of Apple iPhone services in Australia.

We still don’t know when we’re getting it, but at least we know where we can get it.

I’m With The Band managed to get a couple of comments from Vodafone Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Russel Hewitt, he had this to say: “Vodafone Australia is enormously pleased to be included in the agreement to sell the iPhone to our customers later this year.

“The iPhone will be the perfect addition to Vodafone Australia’s mobile handset range. The iPhone’s Australian launch is well-timed to coincide with our plans to deliver an enhanced mobile internet and entertainment experience to customers.

“The iPhone has already proved to be extremely popular with customers in other parts of the world and Vodafone is confident that today’s announcement will be well received by all Australians who are keen to get their hands on their own iPhone.”

Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long before the new, rumoured to be 3G, iPhone is available in Australia…and fingers crossed it’ll even have push email!

Anyway, if you’re keen to get your hands on an iPhone as soon as they’re available then Vodafone has a handy little form where you can sign up for all their iPhone news.

Big Brother Down Under - part II

Big Brother - who’s watching? My post the other day criticizing the Australian Government’s decision to filter all incoming internet content in an ‘opt out’ system seemed to get quite a lot of hits, around 500 odd actually. Normally my traffic is around the 200 - 250 mark but something about that post brought in quite a bit of extra traffic, probably because it’s just a bit of a restriction on our freedom of speech..who knows…hrmm
