Should this be ‘Mat’s Recipes Blog’

Was having a bit more of a detailed look through my Google Analytics stats for this website, this morning, and one thing that is very clear is that people are finding my blog when they are looking for directions on how to make either Fettuccini Carbonara, Teriyaki Chicken, Satay Chicken, or Chicken & Vegetable Lasagne.

Out of the 5,000 odd unique hits I’ve had so far this month an overwhelming 60% of that traffic has come from search engines, and the top keyword terms used were carbonara recipe, teriyaki chicken, fettuccini carbonara, teryiyaki chicken recipe, satay chicken, satay chicken recipe, and chicken lasagne, and this goes on an on till I actually register a keyword of Canon 5D mkII as the 25th most popular keyword.

Something tells me I should not be writing about blogging, and website design, and all those other things I tend to write about at a greater frequency than I publish recipes.

What to do, what to do?

I think I need to do some research on setting up landing pages so that I can make sure people get to the right areas of my blog in relation to their search query.

Or maybe I should just blog recipes all the time, I have a huge number of them.

Thanks for the check Google

Found this in the post today as well, with the dumb Amex letter, and all I’ve got to say is;

Thanks for the check Google!

Granted it’s not a huge amount of money, $138.91 Adsense earnings since January 1st, however it pays for the hosting of this website and my other websites for 12 months so I definitely cannot complain.

A majority of this was earned via clicks on the Google Adsense advertising modules that run on this site, with a small contribution from the Google Custom Search as well. So whilst advertising on blogs isn’t everyone’s cup of tea it can certainly help pay the some of the bills.

Combine these earnings with the check I got from Commission Junction earlier this year and my hosting and domain registration is well and truly paid for.

Website updates, still getting organised

Yesterday I wrote a quick post about trying to get organised, but I forgot to mention one of the biggest, most time consuming, jobs that I was going to try and undertake…

Editing, tagging, and generally tidying up EVERY post I’ve written in the last 8 months!

So far it’s coming along reasonably well. I’ve cleaned up, tagged and re-categorised about 20 articles and I’ve also managed to do a quick redesign on the blog theme itself. Fingers crossed I’ll get most of this completed later this afternoon.
