Apple WWDC Rumours

Here’s my 2 cents on the rumours that are floating all round the web at the moment, chances are I’m going to be so far away from what actually gets announced by Steve Jobs on the Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th Australian time, but hey I’ll take a stab in the dark anyway.
Mac Tablet (iTablet or iTouch) - Apple have already proved that they have an extremely solid and stable operating system in OSX, and they have one of the best touch screens on the market in the iPhone, what happens when you combine the two. Mac Tablet. Mac Tablet is the sort of product you would have around your house, build it into appliances like your fridge, stick a TV tuner in it and mount it to a wall wherever you want a computer and a TV, the possibilities are actually endless.
iTunes TV (Australia) - We’re about to see the first Apple store open in Australia, in Sydney to be precise, and I think this might coincide with a number of big things for Apple lovers in Australia. Apart from the obvious, aka. the iPhone, I think we’ll see the expansion of the services available to us via the iTunes store.
Currently available only in the US, Canada and UK, Apple you can buy / rent movies and television shows from the iTunes store. This service has been missing in Australia and I think we might just be ready for this with the imminent launch of the iPhone and the potential content service sales that will come from that.
..and last but not least, and probably a foregone conclusion..
iPhone 2.0 - Yep, we’re going to see a new iPhone, and yep it’s going to be available in Australia via Optus and Vodaphone, and yep we will see it some time in the month of June. Spec wise I think it will be very similar to the current version, except for 3 big differences;
- 3G network capability
- Built in GPS
- Push Email (same as Blackberry)
What are your thoughts, am I way off track?
.ASIA land grab
Well as of tonight, or tomorrow night if you’re reading this from anywhere in the US, the initial ‘land grab’ for the .asia domain’s will be done and dusted. Or at least the registration process, the billing will follow straight after I’m sure.
Seeing as I look after the domain registrations here at work I was well aware that there would be a major land grab for popular domains. Basically the process was that if you wanted any specific names you had to complete the pre-registration forms a few weeks ago, from there if you wanted the same name as another party then an auction would be held between the interested parties and once those were sorted out the domains would then be assigned on the 26th of March and that would be that. Pretty simple and straight forward.
With my work, and all my projects, I submitted a total list of 18 domain names for registration. At this point in time I’ve received verification emails letting me know that 15 of those names will be registered, the 3 that are outstanding don’t seem to be under challenge so I’m guessing there’s a mail server somewhere playing up.
Most of the domains I registered were either company or product names, there were a couple of fun ones thrown in like www.iwanttovisit.asia and www.iwasbornin.asia. Don’t ask me why I wanted those domain names, I just happened upon them when I was registering all the business ones.
Once we get all the final registration done and paid for I’ll write up a complete list of all the domains that I’ve registered, including all the .com and .com.au domains (I think I own about 60 or so domains in total). I’ll also explain my reasoning behind having all these domains, as it’s a little unusual to have so many.
Anyway, it’s Tuesday morning after a long weekend and I need to try and focus on getting some work done.
Catch you later, Matt
And the Aperture saga is over!
Finally, finally, finally! It’s all over and Apple has just sent me my new serial number for Aperture v2.0. This has seriously been a trial, and it has proven to me that Apple is just like all the other computer companies out there in that they do also have problems with their systems from time to time. I’ve been a big big Apple fan and do my best to speak the gospel that is Apple, but now I’m not sure if I will be so quick to sing their praises.
