GTD Tip: Start your day positively with a To Do list

October 19, 2009

in Home Life, Working Life

If your To Do list is ever expanding like mine, and sometimes you get a little overwhelmed by it, try starting each and every day with a ‘gimme’.

Every day from here on out I’ll have a total gimme of a task to complete, that way I’ll be starting the day on a positive note and getting something done. This will set up my day to be a win from the get go.

Some of my gimmes are;

  • Get a coffee
  • Empty the rubbish bin
  • Take my vitamins
  • Check the post box

You get the picture. Make it a nice simple, totally achievable task, and bam! you’ve kick started your day on a positive.

I’ll vary the gimme so that I don’t feel like it’s part of a routine, so I don’t get stuck in that trap.

Got any other To Do list tips, share them in the comments.

Great tip! I like the idea of starting with one small task that needs to be done anyway to give me a boost… I’m so glad I got to read this post. ;)

My day start:
1. Start machine
2. By the time is starts
– Take out Feng Sui Tortoise from the drawer and put on the desk
– Get the water bottle filled
3. Machine booted. Now check mails
4. In my Outlook 2007 Task view, select all tasks before today and click on Today’s button to make them set for today
5. Check task reminder window, and take actions against them
6. Breakfast with colleagues
