As a blogger I must admit that I love love LOVE receiving comments. There’s nothing like receiving some positive, even negative, feedback about articles you’ve spent minutes, hours, some times days, constructing.

For a little while now I’ve been using the Disqus commenting platform across all of my blogs, mostly for the ease of setting up Facebook Connect, and now Twitter logins, so I must admit I was very thankful and happy when Disqus worked straight away on my new Thesis theme.

How easy is it to set up? All you need to do is just get yourself an account on Disqus, upload the WordPress plugin to your plugins directory, activate it, fill in the login fields and a few other bits and pieces……and voila, you now have a much more interactive commenting system where people can take their comments with them wherever they go.

The only modification I made was addition of a bit of CSS in Thesis’ custom.css

.custom #disqus_thread { padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; }

The only other thing you need to worry about is setting up the Facebook Connect portion of Disqus, that was a little harder but there’s plenty of info on Disqus to help out with that. If you get stuck doing it though, give me a holler.

So if you’re looking to give people more options for commenting on your Thesis Framework blog give Disqus a look in, you wont be disappointed.

I am using a new commentng system called Disqus to replace my default Blogger system. Disqus, pronounced “discuss”, is a free service and tool for web comments and discussions.
The Disqus comment system can be plugged into any website, blog, or application. Disqus makes commenting easier and more interactive. Disqus also makes it easier for people to comment and track their contributions on a single profile.
With Disqus I can reply directly to a comment posted by a visitor thus creating a thread to that particular comment. People can also reply to the reply that I gave to the first comment and so on and so forth.
Comment moderation is taken to a whole new level where you can add human moderators (administrators) and filter out spam and unwanted comments through keywords, e-mail or IP adresses.
New comments notification are sent via e-mail and you can choose to reply to the comment, delete it or mark it as spam directly from your e-mail inbox.
You can put create a little widget for your blog displaying all the people who recently commented on your blog and their comments along with the most popular topics.
You have the option to sign in with your Facebook, Twitter or Flickr account to comment apart from registering at the Disqus website of course.

Disqus can be installed on several popular blogging platform such as Blogger, Wordpress, Movable Type, Typepad, Tumbler and also on any generic website. Installation is easy and straightforward.

Wordpress Auto Updater.Inevitably It'd overwrite my changes & I wouldn't notice for a week or something like that. I did that recently with another plugin that I had tmodifly slightly because it was conflicting with another.I just found myself hrsaccount writing the code for this into my single.php template &I thought “this is silly, what if I change templates?” so I wrote it as aplugin, and so I figured if it was useful to me, someone else might want to use it to :)

Thanks for this post. Exactly the help I needed to make my new DISQUS tool fit my theme as well. Would be great if DISQUS incorporated it into their new upgrade.
