Of late it’s become a bit of a pain for me to come up with new articles for my I’m With The Band blog, and with Reverb Magazine all but pulling out so that they can concentrate on their new distribution model, I’ve all but come to the conclusion that it’s time to either scrap or sell the website…..
However, I get sent loads of press releases, CDs, and other music related bits and pieces so I’m thinking that I might publish the pressers and stuff here, and give away some CDs every now and then. And hey, who doesn’t like free stuff?
So what do you all think, are you ok with me publishing music news and what not on the blog here?
Just answer yes, no, I don’t care, etc. in the comments area below, thanks!

Sure. Can't have enough music news, right?
I'm of the same opinion mostly, and hey my blog is pretty diverse content wise already….
I think that's a solid idea! Let me give you my journalist's perspective: writers are loaded up with press releases to keep them abreast of all that's fresh and 'happening'. If you have any self respect as a journo, you view a press release as a starting point/or a lead to make some inquiries, dig further and create a STORY around the introductory news you have received.
But let's be honest, when the information in the press release is actually worthwhile and well presented it's so tempting to just paraphrase what has been provided (of course I've never seen THAT happen before) and the crew who have sent you the press release would probably be equally as stoked to get the 'news' out there in a version as identical to what they produced as possible.
Music industry press releases aren't sent to the fans (traditionally) and it's the fans who are 10 times more interested in the news than the journos are. Well, I mean, a music journo might immediately write up every snippet of news they get about Matchbox 20 and not EVER get around to crafting a story around a press release they've received about Whitesnake (if maybe they were planning a reunion or something).
So I say, give the fans what they want in it's original form (the press release). They'll also get to read it a lot quicker than if you decided to try and make an article of it.
Oh yeah… and the free stuff? Woo hoo! Maybe you could set it up so readers/fans have to write their own article around the press release you've published [a min-article, just big enough for the comment box] and the best “music journo” wins the prize.
War and Peace reply there Carlee..hehe. I appreciate it though.
You know me, I'm definitely not a journalist…and the only way I'm counted as a blogger by supposed current standards is that I have a blog. So yes, in all likelihood the articles will more often than not be snippets cut n pasted from various press releases. Occasionally when I, or someone else, reviews CDs it'll be 100% original content but apart from that it's just going to be about getting articles out quickly and all that.
And yep, I like your idea for the 'music journo' prize
Sure why not, I love readig about music and stuff ..and who doesn't mind winning a freebie now and then, thanks for the memories….
