I used to file absolutely EVERYTHING, maybe that’s why my server is a little sluggish lately, but now I’ve adopted a different policy.
Every piece of mail that crosses my desk, email included, now gets dealt with straight away and then it’s deleted, or in very rare cases it’ll get filed.
This practise of ‘zeroing’ my inbox / in tray stops me from feeling overwhelmed with the constant stream of information heading at me and leaves me with a sense of accomplishment, similar to the To Do list article I posted yesterday.
When you actually take the time to sit down and analyse all the email and mail that gets sent to you daily you’ll be quite surprised how much of it you can quickly deal with and trash….

Good advice. It’s amazing how after over a decade of getting email I still haven’t come to terms with managing it. Maybe it’s because it creeps up on you and slowly suffocates.
I know the feeling well, it’s been quite a difficult task to dive into….but it’s paying off so far, I’m getting more work done, and it’s easier to focus on the work that needs doing.
Highly recommend giving it a try….shoot there’s probably 2000 emails from me you can delete straight away..haha
