So today we had another ultrasound, this time it it was for the 12-13 weeks NT test where they basically take a measurement of ‘blobs’ neck and that combined with some information from a blood test tells us what the chances of the baby being born with down syndrome or a couple of other diseases.
All the results came back great and we’re in a very low risk category which is excellent news.
As part of the scan they also do a ‘3D’ image of the baby, and we got a video of the whole thing as well. It’s really amazing to see all of this sort of stuff, a little scary too because now I can really really see there’s a baby in Cath’s belly.
Everything seems to be going along well so far, and hopefully it will continue on like this. Fingers crossed. Oh and the baby has all but doubled in length in the last 2 weeks, it’s currently around 6.5cm long.
And nope, we don’t know the sex yet, that comes at around 20 weeks. And yes we do want to know, and we won’t be keeping it a secret or anything like that.
So here’s the video from today’s scan, if you want to skip straight to the 3D imaging it’s around 7:05 I think. Other highlights include seeing both sides of the brain, the heart and heart beat, cardiac output measurements.

Hey man, when you hear that heartbeat it just puts things into a whole new perspective. towards the end of our pregnancy, that heartbeat was like the best music we ever heard. it was so comforting.
Congratulations! The video and 3D picture are simply amazing!
Congrats again!
Thanks Lucinda, it’s so bizarre seeing the 3D imaging in the video, freaked both my wife and I out when we first saw ‘blob’..
Congratulations Matt and Cath. Glad to hear and see that everything is going well. Brendon said that you were up in Brisbane soon – hope to see you. Take care. Vanessa Reed.
