Today marked what should’ve been a big win for Foxtel, finally they’ve setup and launched their download service and now Foxtel subscribers all over Australia can download and play loads of different shows on their computers…..unless of course you a Mac user, then you’re boned.
I was really looking forward to this new Foxtel Download Service, it meant that now we could watch Foxtel shows on the iMac in our bedroom and we wouldn’t have to go to the expense of getting another Foxtel box and a TV……but no, Foxtel of course had other ideas and has decided that this is a Windows only thing..
Not only is it Windows only, but they freely admit that they will likely install the .net framework and Silverlight on your computer….on the plus side, they do still support IE6..hah
Thanks Foxtel. If you weren’t the only way I could watch the A-League you would’ve just lost a subscriber.

install windows on the mac im a mac user and works for me via bootcamp. FYI I work at foxtel
That is such a copout of an answer…. Sadly though, it's pretty well all I would expect out of foxtel.
This is a complete rort, and damn typical of Foxtel. They have absolutely NO idea about how to provide Customer Service, and this is just another example.
Yes, Windows is “dominant” – but it is loosing market share all the time, and some people just won't run it – whether that is for “philosopical reasons” (i.e. Microsoft is Evil), or they just prefer OS X (no viruses, etc) or Linux (free). Tech like this should be and MUST be OS-agnostic.
Is the “download” service restricted to subscribers ? YES !! Then I want to be able to USE it on my computer, which runs OS X. Or will Foxtel provide me, free of charge, a copy of Windows and a machine to run it on ?
I see this as part of the service that my family PAYS FOR each month – and a bloody exhorbitant price as well when you consider there are now more ads on pay-TV than on free-to-air. I'm not paying to see ads, but if I must (for some bullshit reason), then I want to be able to download the programs without having to run Windows !
Or do Foxtel expect subscribers will cancel their accounts because of this ? That's what I'm doing if they don't change it. I can always watch all I want via HULU and BBC and NOT PAY.
Get your act together Foxtel !!
