1 / 365 – Day 1 of my 365 project, and of my holidays….so where am I? I’m at work doing stocktake.
Fun Fun!
We installed a new Point Of Sales (POS) system at work late this year and seeing as we were starting from scratch we had to spend a lot of time creating and uploading all the new product descriptions and loads of other boring bits like that.
So today was the last day of the business year for us, and with that we organised to do a stocktake so that come January 2010 we’re all prepared! It took about 4 hours to complete the stocktake, and by the end of it I was pretty much over it…despite it actually going to plan completely.
Anyway, that’s Day 1 out of the way. Only 364 left. Too easy….haha

POS systems are always fun, huh?
How many products are in the system? I had to do something similar with a new website. But the original plan of 400 products turned into about 800. Nightmare.
Currently we’ve got around 500 products in the system, to save time we only entered what we actually have in stock. In the new year that will expand out to our entire product range, and everything on our parent companies price list, which is roughly 5,000 odd items.
On top of that, the Lightspeed system allows us to attach an image to every product item and it also has a ‘webstore’ module which basically gives you a 1-click online store. The setup of it is really quite cool and my boss want’s to have that online by mid-year, meaning that we have to photograph every single product.
So yeh, huge amounts of work coming my way..
Sounds a lot like what I’ve just gone through. Except my system is only half-ready for e-commerce.
POS data entry. Not the most exciting job ever.
