More changes rolling through
Bit by bit I’m getting organised with the setting up of a blogging network. At this point in time there is I’m With The Band and Cool & Stuff on the list, and hopefully a few more websites will be coming online shortly as part of the network.
The whole idea behind the networking these blogs is to open up greater advertising revenue potential for each of the websites through direct sales of advertising inventory via the network. Having multiple websites, and therefore a larger overall traffic base than each of them does singularly, the network will be able to command better advertisers and sell the advertising inventory at a higher rate than many of the websites would have been able to achieve on their own.
It’s win win for both sides of the equation.
Once the network is fully up and running, advertising inventory decided on, and all of that business stuff is completed I’ll of course make an announcement about it and keep you all informed as to how it’s proceeding. Fingers crossed.
For now, check out I’m With The Band and Cool & Stuff who are officially the first websites in the network.
Fueled by coffee
Fueled by a couple of strong coffees, I’ve some how managed to sketch up 5 different website designs in my web design Moleskine this morning. Hopefully over the next few days or so I can start putting the designs together, code wise that is.

I’ve always been into playing around with website design and development but until recently the ‘light bulb moment’ hadn’t happened for me and I had been struggling with some reasonably basic things…then the light bulb moment happened and well I’ve been motivated and sketching since. I still run into the odd problem, but the web design community is generally really good at helping each other out, so most of the time I can get an answer / solution to the problem within minutes.
So what are these designs actually for? Good question. At this stage one of them is for a mates band, Head of State, who are looking to relaunch their website for a run of upcoming shows and festivals. The others aren’t ’spoken for’ at this stage, so I might submit them to Theme Forest or one of those websites, not sure yet.
As the designs start to take shape I might post a few teaser screen grabs here, for now though I better get back to work.
All Launched Out
Yesterday I spent a very long day in front of Taco HTML Editor, in combination with Firebug and Transmit FTP, putting together the final coding touches to a new clients website. All up it was an 11 hour session, I’ve not seriously coded for that long in a single day before however as we were aiming to launch the site this morning it was a necessity.
So anyway, after a long day, and a very early start this morning, the re-development of SNOBs.com.au was completed.
The basic requirements for the SNOBs re-development was to convert the existing WordPress installation from a ‘hierarchal 3 column design’ to a ‘magazine’ style theme. If you’ve read / viewed this website anytime in the past 6 months you’d know I’m a bit of a fan of magazine style themes and have played with a number of them here.
Some of the other things that Carlee, SNOBS owner, wanted for the re-development were;
- a way to feature competitions and certain content entries
- the ability to put polls in articles
- the ability to sell off numerous advertising spaces, and automate the delivery of them
- an overall neater and cleaner ‘feel’ to the site
This morning when we launched SNOBS Carlee seemed pretty happy, or possibly delirious from lack of sleep (sorry about that…haha..). And so far the traffic stats and time on site stats are looking good as well.
There’s still a handful of features that will be going live over the next couple of weeks, some really cool and very ’social’ and others that will make some of the daily site maintenance and operation easier.
Anyway, here’s a quick screen capture of the site, or you can go directly to SNOBS.com.au and see it in action.
