Exploring Henning Island
Well yesterdays exploration of Henning Island didn’t go quite as planned, the following photos pretty well tell the story.. Seriously, who know that the tide went out that far?
Anyway we called the dinghy hire people and they came and took us off of the island, they had to go back again around 7pm or 8pm last night to retrieve the boat. At the time it was pretty tragic, looking back now though it is way too funny.
Today, we are going exploring!
Cath and I have hired a small dinghy, aka a boat, and we’re going out to explore the nearby islands. One of the islands we’re planning to go ashore on is Henning Island. Here’s a little info about Henning Island.
The Southern end of Whitsunday Island can be seen across the passage from Henning Island. Henning is accessible to boats on all tides, and is National Park. Visitors wishing to stay on the Island are subject to fees and permits, but a large bush campsite is provided for their use with picnic tables and toilets.
Henning Island was named after William Henry Henning; he was an assistant paymaster on the ship called The Salamander. While the Salamander was anchored off of Olden Island in 1866, Henning went ashore to do a little shooting. However, it was he that was shot. Locals say that a wild hermit lived on the island at the time. He resented visitors and it was he that shot Henning through the eye from 70 yards away.
The wild hermit no longer inhabits the Island, or so they say!
Hopefully we will return later today, with photos too.
Sunrise over Hamilton Island
Some how I managed to drag myself out of bed this morning for the sunrise, and lucky for me it was a pretty one.
This honeymoon has been pretty relaxing so far, I think we’re about at the half way point. We’ve mostly just lazed around the resort to this point, today I think we might do some snorkeling or sea-kayaking but I’m not sure yet. Tomorrow looks like it’ll be a fun day, but I wont tell you just yet what we’re going to be doing……
The food’s been great, the sun’s been out, and for the most part the wind has stayed away.
Anyway, I think I might go laze in the sun lounge for a little while till Cath wakes up and we go to breakfast.
A Polaroid a Day
Well today I got married, and every day for the next 12 months I’m taking on a little project to shoot a polaroid of Cath and myself, or something representative of us, for the whole 1st year of our marriage.
We’re not sure exactly what we’re going to do with them yet, but we’ve got a whole load of special polaroid albums to store them in until we make that decision.
So why are we doing this? Well it’s something different, we both love a bit of photography, and after 12 months we’re going to have something really interesting (hopefully) to hand down to our kids some day. Plus hey, polaroids just look really damn cool.
Occasionally I’ll post a photo or scan of some of the polaroids here on my blog, so stay tuned.
PS. The honeymoon is going well, I’m so relaxed right now. We’ve been eating some really fantastic food, lazing around the pool drinking cocktails, and generally taking it very very slowly.
Tomorrow
Getting married tomorrow, hope the weather is a little nicer than it is at Nobbys right now!
Google, catching out lazy workers
Google Street View launched overnight in Australia, thanks to Kristarella for the heads up.
Now when you go to Google Maps now you can see blue outlines on all the streets that have been mapped so far, from my quick look around it seems that Google has been pretty busy as I’ve managed to find all the houses that I grew up in, all my old schools, places I used to hang out in and pretty well all of the surf spots I used to go to.
Google has copped a load of crap previously about privacy breaches and things like that where they’ve clearly shown peoples number plates and also peoples faces. Meh, I don’t really care actually as I’ve already made the decision to stream so much of my life online but I’m sure there will of course be similar complaints made against Google Australia as so far I’ve found plenty of places with car number plates, a couple of faces, and even these ‘busy’ council road workers out the front of my work.
Anyway, it’s pretty cool so go check it out.
Disclaimer: I know these guys aren’t lazy, I’m just joking for the sake of stereotypes.
Got Ink? Part 3
Last night I had another sitting with Darren at Diabolik Tattoo & Piercing in Newcastle. We worked at it for about 3 hours to add in the 2 tones of blue you see, it was pretty fiddly work because of all the waves and effects in the water but I’m really stoked with how it’s coming out.
Hopefully we’ll finish it up in the next session at the end of August, after I get back from the honeymoon. Anyone around the Newcastle area, wanting to get tattooed or pierced, I highly recommend Diabolik as apart from being a super clean and cool shop, they’re extremely professional and pretty nice guys as well.
Viral Marketing, gone ‘adult’
I love a good viral marketing video, and this one from Rubber 55 is one of the best I’ve seen in a while. It’s a total rip off of MTV Cribs, but still pretty funny
Check it out, oh and even though it’s about gimps, dildos, latex, and other random fetish type products it’s completely work safe…..unless of course you work somewhere where they don’t allow those things. errrm. what.
Thanks Commission Junction!
Today I received my first official advertising check / cheque from my blogging efforts, from Commission Junction. Looking back through the reports on my account it seems like there’s a few referral sales for www.GoDaddy.com, some for Skype’s SkypeIn service and a hosting plan from PowWeb. It’s only a $100.00 but it pays for the hosting and all that sort of stuff.
