Mac Dock 'hack'
February 19, 2009 | 14 Comments Every now and then I decide to have a bit of a play around and see if I can fix up / clean up / make better / tweak / etc how my Macs perform and some how I stumbled upon this little trick that puts all your apps only one click away.
With this little hack you can clean up all the extra apps in your Dock and keep your Mac looking just as pretty as it should. And if you have loads of Apps installed like me, then this will really clean up your dock.

I can't stand clutter, so the first thing I did when I got my new (and first ever!) iMac was clear out the dock and start using the Spotlight function to launch all my applications. I try to minimise the amount of mousing that I have to do (RSI, yay!) so in conjunction with keyboard shortcuts it's not only conducive to less clutter but it reduces the amount of pointing I have to do. I know people who don't use the dock at all!
@nomadiquemc just told me about Quicksilver, which is apparently Spotlight on steroids... I'll have to check it out one day!

I've had a quick play with Quicksilver, I just didn't get into it. I have such a neat and ordered filing system that Spotlight does a very good job as it's so easy for it to index and search my macs.
I think a lot of people who are still using Quicksilver are using it from the days when the built in search was pretty ordinary in OS X, fortunately those days are gone for most of us.
