Amathyst at The Cambridge Hotel
I photographed the Amathyst, Skura gig at The Cambirdge Hotel the other night for I’m With The Band. I’ve been good friends with the girls for a year or two now and have photographed plenty of their shows so it was a pretty easy gig to shoot from that point of view as you don’t have a band getting a little nervous, or annoyed, when someone is sticking a camera right up in their face.
This was the first gig I’d shot in a few months, since The Veronicas back in the first week of December, so I was pretty damn rusty with my timing, and with my flash. After a couple of songs, and practising on Skura, I managed to get into sync and scored some great photos.
For those out there who are curious as to what Amathyst sound like, have a quick read of the following excerpt from their myspace page and then head on over to their myspace and have a listen.
“Amathyst are an all girl gothic-rock band from Newcastle Australia, who have been together since 2002.
The girls have a loyal following in Newcastle and Sydney who really appreciate their on stage energy. The music rocks out hard, their stage presence is impressive and their performance is enhanced by the different styles of their 2 vocalists. While extremely different they compliment each other and bring to the band a very unique sound that is unmistakably Amathyst.
In their time together Amathyst have already played along side big bands such as Karnivool, Airbourne, The Sleepy Jackson, Spazzys, Testeagles, Japunga, Behind Crimson Eyes, Cog, 28Days, The Cops and Bodyjar.
They have also worked with legendary producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Silverchair, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) on a couple of occasions and have been inspired by his ideas and knowledge of the industry. Watch this band as they could quite possibly be the next big thing.”
Here’s the photos, enjoy.
