A Business Is Born
Those of you who actually know me know that I’m a fairly driven guy, you know that I’ve always got a load of work on and am constantly coming up with ideas and trying to see them through.
My most recent achievement is the music website I’m With The Band which focuses on the Australian music scene, and most importantly the local scene around Newcastle and the Central Coast, is going great guns. We’ve recently moved over to a Wordpress blog installation and are still developing that so that our readers get the most from the articles, we’re also about to go live with advertising sales and if that goes as planned I’m With The Band will start paying contributors for ‘featured’ content, we’ll also have some dollars to put back into the scene in the form of either a band competition or a compilation cd..
Big big ideas!
So while this is quite an achievement, and hopefully a semi-profitable one, I’ve already come up with my next project and have actually started it!
Let me introduce to you, A Business Is Born.

Here’s the ‘About’ statement from ABIB, it pretty well says what it’s all about….funny that..
A Business Is Born was created by me, Mathew Packer, as a way to document and keep track of the different avenues and obstacles I have been encountering on trying to become my own boss. This blog will be a constant work in progress as this journey has only just begun in January 2008, however I hope it is a successful one both financially and spiritually. In this blog we will cover everything from buying a shelf company and registering a company name through to sourcing products and setting up websites, as I do each of these things it will be documented and a blog will be written. Along the way I’ll also be conducting interviews with other people who have gone and started their own business, we’ll discuss their successes, their disappointments, and anything else they’d like to tell me and hopefully it will be a good learning experience and will keep me, and you, from making the same mistakes. So please subscribe to our RSS feed and add us to your favourites, if you like any of the articles we right then we’d love it even more if you share it with the world via Digg, StumbleUpon or one of the many other social bookmarking networks.
At this stage the content is a little ‘light’ however it will be expanding fairly solidly over the next few days as I get the first interview out of the way, along with writing up the notes I took from when I registered the business.
If you’re in Australia and have even the remotest interest in becoming your own boss and starting your own business then I suggest you subscribe to the RSS feed, or at the least put us in your favourites in your internet browser.
I’ve got 2 more big suprises to come, I knew taking long service leave from my regular work would be a great motivator!
Take it easy, Matt
